Superabsorbent polymer makers Nippon Shokubai and Sanyo Chemical plan merger




CLOVERDALE, CA, June 13, 2019-

Two large superabsorbent polymer manufacturers announced plans to pursue a merger that, by the time of its expected completion in 2022, would create the world’s largest SAP maker, with estimated annual capacity of 1.1 million tonnes.

Nippon Shokubai and Sanyo Chemical said they have reached an agreement to merge, initiating a process that would ultimately create a network of SAP manufacturing sites in Belgium, Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and the United States.
