Stora Enso plans exit from global dissolving pulp market

BRUSSELS, March 30, 2021-

Stora Enso will stop production of dissolving pulp (DP) at its Enocell mill in Finland and exit the DP market globally in line with its updated strategic plans, a company representative confirmed to Fastmarkets RISI.

“During the last year, we updated our strategic agenda and identified our focus areas going forward as packaging, wooden construction and biomaterials innovation from lignin. We want to focus on business where we can have leading positions and strong growth. Dissolving pulp for viscose production is not considered such an area and [represents] a relatively small part of our overall business,” the representative said. He was unable to provide further details at the moment, noting that the company is currently in its silent period ahead of the release of its Q1 financial results report, which is scheduled for April 23.
