Spunlacers raising prices, in latest sign of increasingly chaotic market conditions
CLOVERDALE, CA, October 4, 2018-
After months of rising fiber costs, producers of hydroentangled nonwovens said they had no choice but to raise prices globally effective October 1. One source said the increases seem to be averaging about 5%, at least for US buyers. But some US purchasers are facing much larger cost increases as a result of new tariffs on Chinese imports, which have left some big customers scrambling for supply.
It is hard to untangle the various causes of what seems like an increasingly unpredictable nonwovens market. A market contact cited the example of a film producers which is getting prepared to commission a new line and will probably soon consider ordering another one because of the strength of demand – mostly, it appears, a reflection of robust economic conditions.
