Soteria licenses Glatfelter to market Dreamweaver battery separator technology

GREENVILLE, SC, December 10, 2018-

Soteria Battery Innovation Group (BIG) has sold the first license of the Dreamweaver battery separator technology to Glatfelter (NYSE: GLT).  The technology uses advanced thermally stable nanofibers in a nonwoven matrix to enhance safety in lithium ion batteries.  The license gives Glatfelter global, perpetual, non-exclusive rights to make, use and sell products using the technology.  Glatfelter is in the initial stages of a global product launch.

These are micrographs of a lithium ion battery that has undergone a nail penetration test. The nail penetrated vertically from the top, pushing the layers of anode (red copper lines with black coatings) and cathode (green aluminum lines with grey coating) down. When a stable Dreamweaver separator is used, the separator does not shrink, as can be seen in the magnified image on the left. The aluminum current collector oxidizes, breaking the short circuit and rendering the battery safe.
