PSF prices are heading down – except when they are heading upward (US market, this means you!)

CLOVERDALE, CA, December 5, 2018-

Market prices for polyester staple fiber are declining in some major markets and have risen in others, with those that are seeing hikes also facing the possibility of more increases in early 2019, according to observers. They say the big differences in price trends have the potential to change locations where some products are manufactured, unless prices first return to levels dictated by the market.

Much of the divergence among major world regions can be laid at the door of the US government, which has imposed countervailing duties on fine denier fiber and low-melt fiber in the last year along with 10% duties on many imports from China – with the 10% duties apparently slated to go to 25% on January 1.
