Production problems at 951,000 tonne Brunswick, GA, fluff pulp mill slashes Georgia-Pacific output
SAN FRANCISCO, December 4, 2024-
Georgia-Pacific (GP) is producing well below the 951,000 tonnes/yr of listed capacity at its Brunswick, GA, fluff pulp mill due to mechanical problems, Fastmarkets has learned. In the wake of a project to rebuild its recovery boiler, Brunswick is losing thousands more tonnes of fluff output than the firm expected.
The boiler rebuild at Brunswick was initially expected to trim 55,000 tonnes of fluff output in the first quarter when it first shut down production, followed by an additional 37,000 tonnes in October as workers completed tie-ins to conclude the project. That would have left its downtime total at 92,000 tonnes, sources said.
