Nippon Shokubai breaks ground for new AA plant in Indonesia; will supply key raw material for SAP output




OSAKA, Japan, July 23, 2019-

NIPPON SHOKUBAI CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Yujiro Goto, hereinafter “Nippon Shokubai”) announces that July 11, 2019, its subsidiary PT.NIPPON SHOKUBAI INDONESIA (hereinafter “NSI”) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Acrylic Acid (“AA”) plant in Cilegon, Banten, Indonesia.

AA, one of Nippon Shokubai’s core businesses, shows steady growth of demand as a key material for superabsorbent polymers (“SAP”) and acrylates (“AES”) etc. In recent years, the demand and supply balance of AA is highly tight especially in Asia. To accommodate the demand and fulfill its responsibility to supply products, Nippon Shokubai concluded to expand the capacity of NSI in October 2018.

With this new plant at NSI, Nippon Shokubai group’s global AA production capacity will be as below table, which enables to maintain even more stable supply-ability.
