Higher freight, energy costs lead Kelheim to set price hike; market sees others following

WILMOT, NH, September 23, 2021-

Viscose producers seem intent on raising prices substantially in the coming months in an attempt to pass on some of the cost increases they have been absorbing for the past year or more. Germany’s Kelheim Fibres kicked off the round of increases when it announced it would boost prices by 20 euro cents a kilogram while also adding freight cost adjustments on a customer-by-customer basis.

According to an observer, Lenzing is increasing its prices in Europe by about 15 euro cents/kg, although that could not be confirmed and details were not known. Market participants are waiting to see what Chinese and other Asian suppliers do in response, but one supplier said it seemed likely that average prices in the global market are heading up at least to some extent.
