Europe retaliates against US tariffs with countermeasures on agricultural, industrial products; could include pulp and paper

BRUSSELS, Belgium, March 12, 2025-

The European Commission has announced countermeasures affecting a broad range of agricultural and industrial goods following the reintroduction and expansion of US tariffs on steel and aluminium from the European Union that came into force on Wednesday March 12.

The US tariffs are expected to affect about €26 billion ($27.3 billion) of EU exports, approximately 5% of total EU goods exported to the US. This could mean additional import duties of up to €6 billion, according to a press release by the European Commission.
