Domtar paper machine closure to yield increase in fluff pulp production

CLOVERDALE, CA, October 3, 2019-

Domtar announced today that it will permanently shut down two paper machines, one in Ashdown, Arkansas, and one in Port Huron, Michigan. The Ashdown machine closure will facilitate a 70,000 tonne increase in fluff pulp production, to be implemented over the next year.

The company has been reviewing its papermaking assets in view of a structural decline in markets for many office and printing papers. It has been looking at various strategic alternatives, and is believed to be considering investments in packaging and also in the further growth of its hygiene-related businesses.
