Carbios joins WhiteCycle project to develop circular solutions for complex plastic waste from textiles

SAINT-BEAUZIRE, France, August 9, 2022-

Carbios announces that it has joined the WhiteCycle project, coordinated by Michelin, which was launched in July 2022. Its main objective is to develop a circular solution to transform complex plastic waste [1] based on textiles into products with high added value. Co-funded by Horizon Europe , the European Union's research and innovation programme, this unprecedented European public/private partnership comprises 16 entities and will last four years.

WhiteCycle predicts that, by 2030, the adoption and deployment of its circular solution will lead to the annual recycling of more than 2 million tonnes of the world's third most widely used plastic, PET [2] . This project is expected to prevent more than 1.8 million tonnes of this plastic from being landfilled or incinerated each year. It should also reduce CO2 emissions by around 2 million tonnes.
