CARBIOS and SASA start discussions to set up a 100,000 ton per year PET biorecycling plant in Turkey
CLERMONT-FERRAND, France and ADANA, Turkey, August 1, 2024-
CARBIOS (Euronext Growth Paris: ALCRB), a pioneer in the development and industrialization of bio-based technologies to reinvent the life cycle of plastics and textiles, and SASA, one of the world's leading manufacturers of polyester, fibers, filament yarns, polyester-based polymers, Specialty polymers and polymer intermediates, have signed a letter of intent for the potential acquisition by SASA of a license for CARBIOS' unique PET biorecycling technology. This licence agreement would allow SASA to build and operate an enzymatic depolymerisation plant in Adana, Turkey, with an annual capacity of 100 000 tonnes of prepared PET waste, and would provide access to circular recycling technology, enabling the production of polyester pellets, fibres and textiles from various waste sources, including polyester textile waste. With CARBIOS' biorecycling technology, SASA would diversify its offering to meet the growing global demand for sustainable materials in the textile industry, mainly targeting the European market.
