As US, European auto plants restart, nonwovens makers also begin ramping up; rapid auto market recovery not seen




CLOVERDALE, CA, June 25, 2020-

While nonwovens companies in some sectors have been working overtime during the COVID-19 pandemic, suppliers to the automotive industry have had the opposite experience, with some publicly announcing shutdowns or furloughing employees. Now that auto plants are restarting, their suppliers are starting to do the same thing.

Automakers in North America and Europe only began restarting in the last four or five weeks. In some cases they had to shut down again briefly due to parts shortages – but a nonwovens industry participant said most auto companies probably had adequate inventories to work through the restart process.
