Ahlstrom-Munksjö and Hollingsworth & Vose recently announced glass microfiber capacity additions aimed at capitalizing on rising demand for filtration and energy storage solutions. The investments highlight a common synergy among players in these spaces, as microfiber glass can be employed for filter media and battery separators. And with these technology markets for nonwovens being particularly hot right now, companies operating in both filtration and battery separation figure to be well positioned to drive revenue gains in the years to come.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s new line at its Turin, Italy, plant is said to be a state-of-the-art machine that will quadruple the company’s existing capacity for glass microfiber media. The line will be employed to support growth initiatives in industrial filtration and absorbent glass mat (AGM), as well as to deliver online saturated filter media.
