‘Fierce’ retail battles and sluggish markets are major factors as hygiene products companies report latest results

Intense competition continues to trouble hygiene products markets at a time when demand for some key product categories in many regions of the world is sluggish or even declining. Even in some places like China where demand for all categories continues to increase, product pricing has taken a hit as a result of hard-fought battles for market share.

Those were some of the points raised by executives in the most recent quarterly investor calls held by major hygiene products manufacturers. The calls described an industry that continues to grow, even if the growth is sometimes seen as too anemic for some investors.
