Mabe results, developing markets help hygiene products maker Ontex offset soft sales, diaper competition in Europe

CLOVERDALE, CA, May 26, 2016-

Robust growth in developing markets plus the inclusion of Grupo Mabe’s results from March 1 onward helped Ontex Group NV to report revenue and margin gains in the first quarter despite soft results in mature markets that were driven in part by “more aggressive pricing of international brands” in the Western European baby diaper segment.

As-reported revenue for the first quarter, at Euro 452.4 million, was 6.4% higher than a year ago, according to Ontex. At constant currencies and excluding the Mabe acquisition, revenue on a like-for-like basis was up 1%. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), at Euro 57 million, was up 9.6% year-on-year. If Mabe had been included on a pro forma basis, at constant currencies, revenue would have been 3.9% higher than a year ago.
