IP posts $40/tonne fluff pulp price hike for May 1, amid overall up-trend in pulp pricing

OAKLAND, CA, April 17, 2017-

North American pulp markets continued a four-month pricing run as producers moved to implement $20-40/tonne increases across key grades during a time of lower supply. A spring bounce is underway in bleached softwood kraft (BSK) grades, industry contacts told RISI.

Southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK), which some sources consider tighter than NBSK, rose to $1,040, up $25 as supplies of both regular contract and spot tonnes remained low – prompting some producers to either exit spot markets or offer unusually high prices that most buyers declined to take.
