Diaper production up and running again at former K-C site in Calatayud, Spain

BRUSSELS, January 19, 2017-

Operations are up and running again at a former Kimberly-Clark (K-C) tissue converting facility in Calatayud in Spain. Hygiene Care Company, a Saudi Arabian-based subsidiary of BIG3 Qatar, restarted diaper production at the site in the province of Zaragoza, north-central Spain, in December.

K-C announced plans to close the Calatayud facility within the framework of the strategic changes in its western and central European businesses it initiated in 2012 and which aimed at exiting the diaper category in the region, with the exception of the Italian market, and divesting or exiting some lower-margin businesses, mostly in the consumer tissue segment. Around 200 people lost their jobs when the site shut up shop in May 2013.
