Suominen’s three European nonwovens plans receive FSC and PEFC chain of custody certifications

HELSINKI, August 19, 2014-

Suominen, as part of its commitment to sustainability throughout the supply chain, is pleased to announce that three of its European manufacturing plants have now achieved FSC and PEFC certifications. The certification initiative has been strongly driven by increased customer demand for nonwovens manufactured from renewable and sustainable resources.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) are international standards for companies involved in the manufacture of products derived from forest raw materials. Certification is granted for companies with the processes in place to ensure that any product carrying the FSC and PEFC marks contain wood-derived products from recognized, sustainably managed forests. Suominen plants, in Cressa and Mozzate, Italy and in Nakkila, Finland met all the independent audit steps required to prove Chain-of-Custody capabilities in the management of complete supply chain conformance with the requirements of the two certifications at each stage of the final products' manufacture. In addition to these three plants, the Green Bay, USA plant is already also certified.
