Fibertex Nonwovens announces general price increase, citing force majeure declarations by PP suppliers

CLOVERDALE, CA, May 18, 2015-

Durable products specialist Fibertex Nonwovens will raise its prices by as much as 11% next month as a result of higher costs driven by the tight polypropylene supply situation, according to a letter from CEO Jørgen Bech Madsen posted on its website. Madsen added that "In this situation Fibertex will strive to keep and secure competitive prices and continue to take measures to avoid further increases."

The Fibertex announcement is only the latest indication that the PP supply situation is squeezing the nonwovens supply chain, particularly in Europe. Prices started to turn sharply upward in March. The propylene contract settled up more than 8% in May compared with April, and the increase was passed along in full to buyers of PP chip. But European market sources say price is only one issue, with availability being a bigger worry for some users.
